Peer Support
What is it?
Peer Support is when people with lived experience of mental health challenges or learning disabilities provide emotional or practical support to others based on shared understanding and empathy.
The Barnet Wellbeing Service uses social prescribing principles, offering practical support to help people manage their mental health and wellbeing holistically.
How can it help me?
Peer support allows individuals to decide which parts of their personal experiences they want to share or seek support for. It creates a safe, accepting space where you are understood by others who have been through similar situations. It helps build mutual understanding and emotional resilience.
It aims to:
-
Bring together people with shared experiences to support each other
-
Provide a safe space where you feel accepted and understood
-
Treat everyone’s experiences as equally important
-
Involve both giving and receiving support
How do I access this service?
Barnet Wellbeing Service offers peer support through several partners, including Meridian Wellbeing, Inclusion Barnet, Mind in Barnet, and Barnet Mencap. The service connects individuals to local, non-clinical services that support mental health and wellbeing in a personalised way. Access is via the Barnet Wellbeing Hub.
