Blood Donation Event Background

NHS Blood Donation
Community Project

Did you know that only 1% of the Black population in the UK are blood donors?

Are you from the  Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Islington, Hackney & Waltham Forest area and looking to find out more about donating blood?

Did you also know that the NHS is running critically low on blood donation from Black donors? Due to pressures from COVID-19 figures show that approximately 16,000 more blood donors are needed to meet the demand for those suffering from Sickle Cell Disease that requires life-saving transfusion.

We at Community Barnet have partnered with the NHS to engage with Black communities in Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Islington, Hackney & Waltham Forest to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation.

We hosted an interactive online coffee and chat where we spoke about the importance of blood donation as well as:

·  What blood donation is and isn’t

·  What is your blood type and how do you find this out

·  Speaking with someone with personal experience with blood donation & sickle cell

You can view highlights from the event here.

We are planning to host more spaces for discussion in the autumn, details of which will be posted here and on our social media.
